Listening to Drumming on Spotify. Ads between every section! Ah!!!!
Sooooo necessary to replay the end of the last section to hear the fade ins/outs because they’re definitely the coolest moments.
This happens with attacca movements of symphonies too. Glad this is my most pressing problem at the moment.
And wish John Cage a happy 100th birthday!!!
I must admit that I’m getting kind of tired of all the craziness and Cage performances this year has brought, but that doesn’t stop me from wearing my shirt with his face on it and performing Speech today. But it’s not even going to end today. We are doing all the Sonatas and Interludes in a month (which I can’t lie, is awesome), and I’m sure there will be more…
But let me tell you about my creepy/insane Cage experience last year! We were doing Radio Music which, surprisingly, involves a lot of people tuning different stations on radios. My school is in the middle of nowhere, so we got mostly static, but it was still pretty beautiful in the space. However! I tuned to one station where there was this interview going on…the interviewer was like, “So what did you learn from this experience?” and the interviewee responded, “Really, the most important thing…was that I learnedhow to listen…” And then it faded away into static. And if that wasn’t the voice of Cage himself speaking to me from beyond the grave, I don’t know what is!
Happy Birthday John. :)
